Can I custom design my dome?
Yes. We offer (7) standard sizes, but we can engineer a dome to your specifications. Custom orders can modify strut length and frequency, number of panels/pieces of fabric, color of struts and fabric, etc.
What are the doors made of?
Our domes come standard with up to three hexagonal, zip-in doors with waterproof zippers.
Additional doors features, at an additional charge, include:
What do you use for windows?
We use a fire-retardant clear vinyl material, which looks very much like glass. As one example of our competitive pricing, we offer as many windows and skylights as you like at no additional cost.
Have you ever built a dome in the tropics?
Yes. Our covers are mildew and mold resistant, as well as UV protected. How well the dome fares in your climate has to do with the ventilation allowed. Incorporating vents and solar fans into the design assists with circulation.
What are my foundation options?
We recommend a wooden platform sitting on pier blocks or a wood deck that is securly anchored. A protective barrier should be applied as a vapor seal (i.e. Tyvek, or Mylar). A more permanent solution would be a concrete slab.
What are some common flooring options?
Many people use commercial staging, or carpet over asphalt for events. For home applications, hard wood is a nice option.
What are my options for heating?
A radiant heat concrete slab, propane monitor heater, electric/gas heat pump, or wood-stove are all good heat sources. (Consultation by DomeGuys available but items not provided by DomeGuys)
*The R-value of a dome skin is low, which means that there is a great deal of heat exchange.
What are my options for cooling?
A solar fan, swamp cooler, or standard A/C unit will cool the dome during hot weather. You should account for 1 AC ton per 24 people, plus 1 ton per 100 sq ft. (Consultation by DomeGuys available but items not provided by DomeGuys)
*The R-value of a dome skin is low, which means that there is a great deal of heat exchange.
Can you build inside of the dome structure?
Absolutely. Additional building of lofts, floors, walls, plumbing and electric wiring are possible and are also the client's responsibility.
What equipment is needed to construct a dome?
*All required equipment is available worldwide
Is it possible to connect multiple domes?
Connecting domes is aesthetically appealing, and easily manageable. We provide the tunnels needed - please specify this in your quote request.
How do you anchor the domes?
We normally use steel stakes, concrete blocks, anchor plates, or water tanks. (Installed by DomeGuys but not provided by DomeGuys)
What kind of building permit do I need?
Domes are temporary or semi-permanent structures. Please contact your city's Department of Planning for building codes in your area, such as R-value, as well as snow and wind load requirements for temporary or semi-permanent structures.
What are the snow, wind, and seismic loads of your domes?
Domes fair impressively well in extreme weather conditions. When anchored properly, they are among the safest structures available. For our standard dome products, you can expect the following support:
If you need increased static or dynamic load bearing ability, we can engineer and manufacture to your specific needs.

What are the covers made of? How long do they last?
DomeGuys' semi-permanent covers are made of heavy duty, high gloss, painted fabric and pre-processed to be flame-retardant in accordance with European standards and California State Fire Marshall standards. The material is currently available in 12 different colors and have welded seams for ultimate waterproof protection, are mold and mildew resistant, and UV protected. They last up to 20 years given that they are properly stored and/or cared for, and depending on sun and weather exposure.
The event covers are made of a polyester/cotton fabric blend coated with PVC, one side slightly glossy and the other slightly matte finished. It can be printed on both sides and is weldable, thanks to its PVC coating, which makes the covers 100% waterproof. These covers will last for 3 + years under continuous sun exposure. They are designed for short-term use.
Our greenhouse covers are made of a rip-stop, nylon-threaded clear vinyl. All of our skins are 100% waterproof and fire-retardant according to stringent European standards.
Do you make greenhouse domes?
Absolutely. Our greenhouse application cover is made of durable rip-stop, nylon-threaded, mold and mildew resistant clear vinyl. Our domes can last up to 20 years, so you really need to only buy one time. They can withstand heavy snowloads, high winds, are waterproof, mold and mildew resistant, and UV protected, passing only the proper UV ideal to plant growth.
With the proper ventilation and heating when necessary, you are able to have an ideal garden year-round, use for starts and flowers, or create multi-levels.
Do the covers come in different colors?
The PVC covers come in a range of colors, and we now offer a high-resolution custom print option with our event covers. We are happy to assist with the design process.
How do you eliminate airflow/air infiltration between the different sections of the skin?
It is possible to manufacture the skin in one piece. With a multi-piece skin, we can add waterproof zippers at every seam.
What is the frame made of?
Our standard frame is made of white, powder-coated, 1" steel tubing and comes with hardware. Thicker tubing is also available at an additional cost. Custom colors available.
