DomeGuys International offers 2 styles of frames which come with a professionally powder-coated finish direct from our factory. We offer our Standard Frame and our Heavy-Duty Frame.
Continuing our commitment to the highest level of quality and safety, DomeGuys International retains the services of a structural engineer to ensure the integrity of each new or modified dome design before we send it to the manufacturing floor. If your location is in a high-wind or hurricane zone, increased seismis activity or snowy region, we can assist you in determining if a standard frame will meet your needs or if a heavy duty frame upgrade is required.
DGI Frames are made with powder-coated structural, industry-rated steel, engineered to withstand the following 3 load combinations:
(For "site-specific" engineering requirements you may be required to have your own engineering report created for your specific location, which is provided at an additional cost)
Wind Speed - 100 miles per hour
Snow Load - 20 pounds per square foot
Hanging Weight - 2,500 @ 500 pounds from each of the 5 top hubs
Heavy Duty Frame/
Wind Speed - 160 miles per hour
Snow Load - 40 pounds per square foot
Hanging Weight - 5,000 @ 1,000 pounds from each of the 5 top hubs
The relationship of the 3 loads above (wind, snow, and hanging weight) is like a mobile. If one of the 3 loads is adjusted the other two are affected. For example, if there is zero hanging weight in the dome then the snow and wind loads will be increased.
DGI windows are made of marine-quality, fire retardant clear vinyl.
Home Dome Kit/
Features a 3-row, clear, zip-in bay window.
Designed to feature additional round windows, triangular windows or a combination of the large bay window and individual windows. There is no extra charge for custom window configuration.
Bay Window/ Triangular Window/ Round Windows/
Our standard domes come with hexagonal, zip-in doorways with an average height of 7 feet. Our Custom Domes can be upgraded to circular doors and household style doorways.
When a standard household door opening is added to a dome frame, all entries must be reinforced in order to maintain the intregity of the dome. We recommend the assitance of a general contractor to oversee the standard door retrofitting, or at least someone with previous build experience.
Standard Door Upgrade Cost:
16' - 44' domes cost $750
60' - 120' domes cost $1,200

Insulating layers may be added to the dome to compliment any heating and/or cooling elements.
DGI is also the official dealer of NorpacM3 Extreme Weather Liner, which is specially fabricated for your dome size and location. This will provide an improved R-value which results in increased energy efficiency; More effective cooling in extreme heat and more efficient heating in cooler climates.
There are a variety of methods to anchor your dome, depending on the build surface you will be anchoring to, what the weather requirements are and the type of dome use.
Methods of anchoring include:
Concrete Anchors (e.g. wedge bolts)//
Wood Deck Eyehook//
Choosing the lift method that is appropriate, most safe and most effective is crucial. There are a variety of equipment options for each size dome. What you will need to evaluate is location (accessability), permissions (some event locations don't allow heavy machinery), and cost. Some options allow you to construct your dome faster, but cost more. Some are a better option because they allow you to install your frame AND cover (the bigger the dome, the heavier the cover).
Domes 44' and smaller are able to be built with the use of hand-crank hoists and/or ladders, although heavy machinery can be ideal in certain situations. 60' domes require the use of a scissor, boom or basket lift and heavy-duty 60' domes and larger require a crane rental. All required equipment is available worldwide. All domes require the use of hand tools and/or impact drivers.
Variable Reach / Extending Book Fork Lift//
Installing your dome requries a few basic hand tools. If DGI is hired to build your dome for you, they will bring the required tools for the installation. If you are building it yourself or hiring your own crew, DGI can guide you in obtaining the proper equipement for the job.
The following tools are helpful to have, but are not required in order to build your dome:
In regards to building permits and codes for geodesic domes, every state, city and county have their own. It will be your responsibility to contact your local building department and see how they interpret your dome and how the codes apply. The domes are generally known as a “semi-permanent” structure so that will give you flexibility.
Once your 50% custom dome deposit has been placed with us, we are able to provide you with an engineering report, CAD drawings, fire certificates, textile technical data, anchoring instructions/data, and load-bearing information to bring to your local planning department. We can also put you in touch with an engineer who can assist with the permitting process by generating a site-specific report. This is subject to engineer fees.
All of our dome covers are constructed with high-quality architectural fabric, pre-processed to be flame-retardant in accordance with California State Fire Marshal standards. DomeGuys International chose the California fire certification process because they lead the nation in fire code standards.
You may obtain a fire certificate for your type of dome cover during the final contracting process.
DGI provides the structure which you can personalize to accommodate your own aesthetic appeal. It will be your responsibility to coordinate with a subcontractors for personal additions, such as flooring, lofts, interior furnishings and decor, electrical systems, plumbing, lighting, and other enhancements.
Lighting and other features may be suspended from specific locations on the dome frame as long as the total and individual weight doesn’t exceed the weight bearing capacity of your dome. This depends on the frame capacity only and whether you have a standard or heavy duty frame upgrade.
Standard Frame Hanging Weight/ 2,500 @ 500 pounds from each of the 5 top hubs
Heavy Duty Frame Hanging Weight/ 5,000 @ 1,000 pounds from each of the 5 top hubs
If the weight is distributed away from the top 5 hubs, then it changes the weight bearing capacity. Specific weight-bearing ability is determined by the total accumulation and distribution of the load throughout the frame. Site- and weight-specific load bearing engineering is available through DGI.
Geodesic shelters have been called the most efficient structural design ever conceived possessing approximately one-third less surface area than a rectilinear structure of similar size. The curved interior of the dome encourages natural air circulation which helps to reduce the amount of energy required for heating and cooling. Domes are a lightweight, viable alternative to traditional construction and are quickly becoming the alternative to eco-living spaces, private studios and a host of other uses.
With the simple addition of a low voltage wiring system, electricity can be supplied with wind, solar, or hydroelectric power. The installation of a composting toilet, solar exhaust fan, solar generator, insulation and a rainwater catchment system are a few of the other efficient and cost-effective ways to reduce your imprint and live “off the grid” in a DomeGuys geodesic dome. See our DGI Dealer Page for some of these options.
An affordable alternative home option, geodomes are an eco-friendly answer to sustainable development. DGI domes are made of durable, competitively priced, high-quality architectural materials. The geodesic shelter dome application can last up to 20 years with minimal maintenance. The net annual energy savings for a dome owner is 30% of normal rectilinear homes.
Upon deposit, your dome will go into production. From that point, it will take 6-8 weeks to receive your dome product.
Standard In-Stock Domes/
Depending on product availability and destination, you could receive your dome in as little as 2 weeks. Please review our In-Stock Deals page for our current deals. Please note that this page does not indicate our entire in-stock inventory.
Your dome will arrive in two (2) bundles, either separately or together.
1 The cover will arrive in a protective tote bag
2 The frame will arrive sorted by strut length in bundles or on a rack or palette. Shipment includes necessary hardware (nuts, washers and bolts).
Shipping costs can vary quite a bit based on the size of the order, shipping destination and method of transport. We utilize all methods of transportation; ocean, air, train or truck.
We work with a global network of freight forwarders who specialize in complex logistics. Typically, we will drop ship to the closest port or airport (depending on method of transport) and the client will handle customs clearance and delivery. Many countries offer their citizens tariff rebates, so oftentimes this arrangement is highly beneficial to the client.
DomeGuys International will be happy to handle the delivery door to door if that is your preference.
The maintenance of your geodesic dome will depend on the location and climate, plus frequency and type of usage. We do not expect you to be subjected to any of these issues, but regular checkups are recommended and can help avoid any larger problems.
Beyond general upkeep, here are a few tips on keeping your dome clean and well-maintained:
Checking any high-use areas, such as around doors, and check window zipper seams for wear and tear. Investigate any openings in your dome skin, including the base of the dome, where venting, fans and heating materials are located to ensure they are still properly sealed there are no tears and no dirt or debris has collected. Wash any debris off regularly that my have landed on your dome skin and regularly check for any unusual wear and tear or other obvious changes or damage.
Occasionally check your frame/nut-and-bolt intersections (aka frame "hub") for tightness of bolts. After any extreme weather situations check all frame intersections for cracking.
Financing options are available for dome purchases.
Currently, to qualifying clients we can offer two plans:
1 Deposit down payment and the remaining balance will be spread out over 12 equal interest-free payments.
2 24-month term: 50% down plus 10% amortized interest on the outstanding balance, calculated at the beginning of each billing cycle. We use a standard mortgage calculator to compute interest.
