Eyez On Vegas - 2010

Though it may seem far off Burning Man is coming up faster than you think!  As you plan your camp consider how great it would be to have a dome.  They can provide great shelter and an overall cool vibe or a great base for your artwork.

If this is the first you are hearing about Burning Man check out their web site for more information about what is burning man?  It may be too late to get tickets this year but there is always next year if it sounds like something you would be interested in.

DomeGuys International has gone to Burning Man for many years setting up and providing domes for a wide variety of uses.  This year make your camp stand out with a striking dome.  Already have a dome but need help setting it up?  Call us.  Want to buy a dome to use every year?  Call us.  Want to rent a dome to try out the dome experience?  Call us.  Have a dome but need a new cover?  Call us.  We are here to meet all of your Burning Man dome needs.

If you are hoping to have a custom dome for Burning Many the deadline to place orders is July 1st.  Any later than that and we cannot guarantee it will be done in time to get you home to the Playa.

Consider a frame only rental and then you get to have all the fun of making your own cover however you want.  Check out the Badlands Funk dome shown below.  We even had an inquiry recently about turning a dome into a Hobbit Hole.  The only limitation is your imagination.

DomeGuys get in the Holiday Spirit

DGI gets in the Holiday Spirit

The time for catching the Holiday Spirit is here!  DomeGuys International serves the needs of dome lovers globally, but our main office is in Ashland, OR USA.  We were excited to participate in our local Holiday parade by providing the music for our lovely local dance troupe, Shiroun Dance Company.   Domes are flying out the door to serve as amazing holiday party “spaces”, larger-than-life snow globes, and stunning winter shelters.  What could you create with a dome?

Are you throwing a Holiday party this year? Creating the right environment goes a long way – geodesic domes are great for that.  We did a little online research to help you out with the details:

    1. Send out festive invitations. Start your party out on the right foot with great invitations. You can buy Christmas-themed party invitations at card stores and party shops–or make your own by using old Christmas cards or printable templates and clip art from the Internet.
    2. Plan the menu.  For a party where you will serve only appetizers and drinks, serve simple fare like a cheese and fruit tray, mini quiches and crackers and breadsticks with dip. If you’re planning to serve a meal, go for buffet style make-ahead dishes. A desserts-only party should include decadent desserts and tarts–and Christmas cookies!
    3. Serve festive drinks. If you plan to serve cocktails at your party, look for some festive drink recipes. If bartending isn’t your thing, have a self-serve bar available or mix up a big bowl of holiday punch. Peppermint-flavored martinis or a batch of spiked eggnog are always delicious options as well.
    4. Decorations. No Christmas party would be complete without party decorations. String blinking lights across the room and decorate with tinsel, garland and mistletoe. A clear vase filed with multicolored Christmas ornaments makes a great centerpiece. Make sure that you have a decorated Christmas tree!
    5. Party music. Be sure to fill the party room with the sounds of Christmas music. You can create your own party music mix by downloading Christmas tunes onto your computer and then creating your own play list. Classic Christmas CDs, by artists like Frank Sinatra or Bing Crosby, are always in favor-or go for an all -instrumental route.
    6. Party games. A Pollyanna gift swap is a great addition to any Christmas party. Have guests draw names beforehand or have them draw numbers at the party–the person with the lowest number starts first by picking any of the gifts and then continue until everyone gets a gift. Christmas trivia games or a Christmas-themed bingo game are also good party games.
    7. Have a surprise guest. If you have a willing adult–with a jolly personality–that is available to help out, have him or her don a Santa Claus or Mrs. Claus suit and surprise the kids with a visit from St. Nick. Take a Polaroid picture of each child sitting on Santa’s lap and give them to your guests as party favors.
    8. One final thing to remember. The holiday season is a very busy time–many people get swamped with invitations to family parties, work-related functions and neighborhood open houses. Try to choose a party date that will work for the majority of your family and friends.

Burning Man 2011 with Geodesic Domes

It’s Burning Man 2011 and we are thrilled to be building geodesic domes! It happens every year in the northern desert of Nevada in Black Rock City, and this year we are building 9 domes! BurningMan.com says:  “Once a year, tens of thousands of participants gather in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert to create Black Rock City, dedicated to community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance. They depart one week later, having left no trace whatsoever. Burning Man is also an ever-expanding year-round culture based on the Ten Principles. Burning Man isn’t your usual festival, with big acts booked to play on massive stages. In fact, it’s more of a city than a festival, wherein almost everything that happens is created entirely by its citizens, who are active participants in the event.”

For this year’s burn our crew loaded up the camper and the trailer. We packed up our frames, skins, tools, tutus, moon boots, and goggles and  headed to the playa to once again build domes in the Black Rock City desert. This is the first year ever that tickets to Burning Man sold out, and we feel it! For the 2011 Burn, we have 9 geodesic event domes to build: a record number! These 9 domes will serve as shelters, music stages, lounges, and galleries. The domes range in size from 16′ – 60′, and can be found at these camps: FractalNation, Feed the Artists, Disorient, DPW, BadLands, and Rites of Spring.

If you are lucky enough to be one of the people who managed to snag a ticket to this sold-out event, follow the horizon to the big beautiful domes, and come say hey. We’d love to hear how our immediate, reliable and mobile shelters inspired and ignited creativity and self-expression on the playa. Hope to see you at the burn.

The 2011 Oregon Green Expo

DomeGuys International at the Oregon Green Expo

The 2011 Oregon Green Expo is upon us! This is the third annual show and it will be held at the Jackson County Fairgrounds on June 25 & 26th. Admission is $3 daily and kids 12 and under are free!

This year’s Oregon Green Expo will focus on sustainability. It will highlight companies and organizations that offer green and sustainable products. There will be booths and demonstrations on alternative energy & fuels. Meet green Builders. See products for sustainable health & wellness. Learn about alternative transportation, natural gardening & foods, water ecology, and conservation & recycling. Connect with sustainable communities and get information about responsible investments.

DomeGuys International is a sponsor for the Oregon Green Expo. Our 36′ Earth Print geodesic dome will be used as the ”Explore Nature Center” for kids. It will also house a “Play Outdoors Day” for kids and families. One of the golas for the Oregon Green Expo is to educate families on how to get outdoors. Hopefully, this can help fight childhood obesity and nature deprivation. Nature deprivation is a new epidemic due to the increase of technology. Kids are spending less time outdoors and more time on the computer, watching television and playing video games. DomeGuys International is thrilled to support the Oregon Green Expo with such a worthy cause.

We hope to see you there!
